In inter-congregational spaces, among congregations that share charisms, within individual congregations, within age and interest cohorts, and among individual members, there is a process of envisioning for the future that has been going on for years, and is continuing to take place as we live into the future. There's sharing around the issues of Laudato Si' [Pope Francis' 2015 environmental encyclical] and counter-trafficking and the sense of understanding the call of Pope Francis to the synod, that whole sense of wanting to understand what the call means in a very divided world. Are sisters taking comfort in that knowledge, or is it too easy to focus on the daily practicalities the process creates? It's a challenge, but it's also a possibility, and I think there's a great comfort from that. At the heart of it all is the quest for God. Instead of long cords connecting telephone extensions, colorful arrows stretched across the computer screen in front of us. In pursuit of the moving target that is the future, we come to see that there are many ways to get there.

How to create the space for newness of life amid our daily realities? On the way, we engage in conversations, recognizing that the prayer and discernment we are about at this moment is done in motion. It's a very human thing to identify yourself with something that has great meaning, but the call is the call. In closing the virtual assembly, LCWR leadership blessed Sr. Jane Herb, president of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe, Michigan, as the conference's president-elect, and thanked Wagner for her completed term. At the 2022 assembly in August, Munley presented an update on the process, specifically the five Collaborative Leadership Hubs held across the United States between April and June in which leaders contemplated, discussed and discerned the emerging future of religious life.
